The first $2M ARR is about griding out your company’s place in the world, finding Market-Product-Fit, assembling your early team, and laying the foundations of your company culture—going from zero to one. Founders find out, one way or another, that getting past this point requires leadership, and that’s your primary job from here on out. It’s better to figure this out earlier and develop yourself to meet the challenge before you get there.
The great plateau, or worse.
What happens if you don’t? You’ll come across stories of companies where everything was going swimmingly until suddenly it wasn’t. You’ll hear myriad reasons for this, from capital constraints to competitor movements, but it is almost always about leadership.
Poor leaders who have found a real and painful problem for a specific market can get nearly everything wrong and still make it to $1M ARR. They can lean on the goodwill of their small team and lead poorly and still make it. But as soon as you need a proper team of 10+ people, this all grinds to a halt. Failure like this leaves very few options, including the board replacing the founder/CEO. Nobody wants this to happen at this stage. If the company grows enough, at some point, this is quite likely as the qualities and attributes of a CEO operating an early-stage company are quite different to those of a large business. It’s a different job. But in the early stages, replacing a founder, particularly when the founder does not wish to be replaced, is almost always bad and rarely happens for this reason. More often, no change is made even though it needs to be, and the company stops growing and ends up inching along and failing to live up to its potential.

Coaching involves 90-minute monthly sessions, which involve some prep + follow-up to ensure we’re making real progress.
Fees are $1.5k +GST monthly on 6-month engagements.
